Project Description
• The Seattle Yard Trainset Maintenance Facility (“SEA Facility”) is situated at 187 S
Holgate
St, Seattle, WA. For the purposes of this Project, the Work is limited almost exclusively within
the yard’s limits north and south of S Holgate Street. The topography of the site is generally
flat, with a high-water table. The SEA Facility services and maintains several pieces of equipment
including: Talgo trainsets, Sounder Rail, Empire Builder, and Cascade trains and has acted as a
railroad yard for many entities in its 50+ years of operation.
• The Project consists of the design and construction a new, two-bay Maintenance and
Inspection Facility, (M&I Facility), one track for Service and Cleaning (S&C) operations (running
adjacent to the building under a canopy cover), construction of three storage tracks, modifications
to existing yard track systems, relocation of existing facilities and parking and utility upgrades
to accommodate trainset activities for existing and new fleet equipment. The newly proposed
location of the new M&I Facility presently houses temporary structures, storage containers,
equipment, and laydown area.
• The new M&I Facility will be equipped to inspect, test, and perform maintenance, service, and
cleanings of fully assembled trainsets. The M&I Facility shall be designed to accommodate trainset
of various sizes and capabilities including the new AIRO Trainsets to be used on the Cascade Rail
Lines. In addition to the M&I Facility, the DB Contractor will be responsible for the construction
and relocation of existing user groups and operations that will be affected by the Project.
• In addition to design and construction of the improvements and related requirements, the
DB Contractor will be required to provide warranties for the Work in accordance with the DB Documents.
Subcontractor/supplier opportunities include (but not limited to): Dewatering, demolition,
earthwork & site utilities, site improvements, structural steel, pre-engineered bldg., exterior
systems, metal roofing, interior construction, elevators, MEP, track & rail construction.
